Free CPD (1 hour): An Engineer Imagines Cork City 2101

This autumn CPD forms part of a series of lectures and exhibitions, which can be attended both in-person and online, which are being held to reflect on the design competition organized by the Cork Region in 2021- 2022 on the theme of ‘An Engineer Imagines Cork City 2101’.

Through a series of four events (on 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th Oct) the winners and contestants of this competition will explain the brainstorming, outcomes and vision behind their entries. The CPDs will cover the themes of Climate Action, Sustainability, Smart Cities and Circular Economy as well as the Decarbonisation, Biodiversity and the Energy Crisis.

Join us for Lecture #3

For the competition, Sweco developed a future study on what Cork City might look like in 80 years’ time, 2101. Our re-imagining took into consideration climate change mitigation and is powered by innovative, creative and sustainable solutions.

For our CPD session, Mary Creedon will present the ‘Cork 2101’  and the focus on how the circular economy will give us the tools to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss together, while addressing crucial social needs. It gives us the power to grow prosperity, businesses, jobs, and resilience, while cutting greenhouse gas emissions, waste and pollution. Circular thinking is a systemic approach to economic development designed to benefit businesses, communities, and the environment, based on three principles.

The design competition posters will be exhibited in the lecture room and everyone is welcome to attend in-person.
